So let’s try to shed some light on the matter with some useful information and some curiosities.
Quartzite is an unexfoliated metamorphic rock, consisting mainly of quartz.
It is a material that has a very ancient history and that was formed over millions of years.
The plates that form the earth’s crust, stimulated by the underlying incandescent magma, collide with each other, fold creating the mountains and bury the sandstone. Due to the effect of pressure and intense heat, the grains of sand of which the sandstone is made melt, recrystallize and join the silica cement, giving rise to a rock of great resistance and durability: quartzite.
Quartzite is present all over the world: in the United States (in Arizona there is even the city of Quartzite named after the rock of the nearby mountains), in Brazil, in Europe, in Mozambique and in India, where extremely successful quartzites come from.
What are the materials that we mainly import from Indian quartzite quarries?
In the quarries blocks of different colors are extracted ranging from gray to various shades of brown (Gold, Autumn Brown, Buff Brown and Dark), to white, from red to pink (from iron oxide), to light green.
From India we import considerable quantities of blocks that travel on large ships in 20′ containers or in the hold up to an Italian port where they are stored and transported. Once they arrive at our warehouse in Verona, the blocks are cut to obtain slabs.
Naturally split quarry artifacts with split or sawn sides are also obtained from Indian quarries: these are materials processed and sculpted by hand, following the natural breaking lines of quartzite.
Different products are obtained with the split finish: first of all, floor tiles in various sizes and colors but also coverings, curbs, strips and elements with “significant” thicknesses which can also be used for street furniture.
The surface of these materials is rough, irregular and non-slip and therefore ideal for the edges of swimming pools and gardens.
Go to the page on the use of quartzite in swimming pool flooring.
Quartzite is a stone with considerable thermal inertia and with a practically zero expansion coefficient and therefore also suitable for cold temperatures.
Being a natural stone, quartzite lends itself to various processes and various types of finishes: smooth, shiny, flamed, flamed and brushed, striped, wen-pec even if the effect is pleasant even when it is left rough.
It is a material that is very easy to clean and maintain, has low absorption and is therefore recommended for all rooms in the house. Being very resistant to shocks, quartzite is also suitable for spaces with intense traffic.
