Pietra di Fossena, also called Grigio Tortora, is a limestone that comes from North Africa and in particular from Tunisia.
It is a gray-brown material characterized by small veins of quartz and shades that increase its added value since they were formed over millions of years from different minerals that have mixed together.
This material, due to its warm tones, is well suited to many environments, especially indoors, such as floors, walls, stairs, kitchen and bathroom tops, but it is also used for outdoor floors and walls.
Its homogeneous and uniform structure makes it “minimal” and perfect for both traditional and more modern and avant-garde contexts.
It is a stone that enjoys an excellent chromatic combination with other stones and other materials such as wood, glass, metal and concrete, therefore it is highly appreciated by architects and designers.
Combining nature and modernity, ancient and new, creates a harmonious contrast that gives a touch of originality to the various rooms of the house, with excellent, timeless aesthetic results.
Generally the fossa stone is flamed & brushed; other finishes we carry out are satin finishing, sandblasting and velvet touch treatment.
Does not lend itself well to sanding and polishing.
It is a marble that has minimal absorption and its ordinary maintenance can be carried out in a very simple way with water and denatured pink alcohol or with neutral detergents dissolved in water.
However, it is necessary to pay a little attention and avoid contact with acid products, which can stain it.
Any greasy stains can be eliminated with the use of Marseille soap-based products (Chanteclair). In the case of stubborn and difficult to remove stains, we suggest, as always, to contact your retailer so as not to irreparably compromise the surface of a stone which, with the right attention, can keep its appearance unchanged, or rather improve it over time.
