The most suitable flooring for areas adjacent to an outdoor swimming pool must be made with materials capable of withstanding atmospheric agents, winter frost, sudden changes in temperature, water penetration, foot traffic, wear and tear over time and must be simple to maintain.
A swimming pool flooring must also be non-slip and must not favor the presence of mold or the like.
Obviously, the characteristics listed above do not only concern swimming pool floors but concern all outdoor floors, such as those of a garden or a courtyard.
In addition to the purely functional aspects, it is also necessary to add the great importance of the aesthetic quality: the pool environment must convey balance, beauty and must blend well with the surrounding landscape.
There are many flooring materials that can be used in the areas adjacent to swimming pools: wooden slats, klinker and stoneware terracotta tiles, cement with additives, synthetic resins.
Natural stones, unlike other materials, in addition to an excellent aesthetic result, are able to offer a guarantee of resistance and durability over time and an excellent non-slip grip with wet surfaces.
However, not all stones are suitable for outdoor use: sandstones and tuff stones, for example, being frost-free, tend to crumble after a few years if placed outdoors.
Instead, all granite materials (to be clear those dotted), and quartzites are suitable.
Even the maintenance and cleaning of these materials is easy: often it is enough to wash the floors with a high pressure water hose or with a pressure washer.
If a high pressure wash weren’t enough
it is advisable to consult the supplier.
Absolutely banned the use of muriatic acid!
Although quartzites are extremely resistant to weather and chemical agents and have characteristics that make them non-slip, they have a pleasant and “light” appearance, with both “warm” and “cold” shades that reconcile all chromatic situations.
The floors of the following pools were made with different types of quartzites supplied by Badini Gaetano.
A technical curiosity: there are no machinery for the extraction and processing of these stones, so each tile is a unique piece, extracted from the quarry and squared “by hand” by the hands of skilled specialized technicians (stonemasons).
Naturally split mint quartzite laid on a bed of mortar.
Sand-colored material tending towards mustard yellow, resistant to external agents, but also to the chlorine and salt contained in swimming pool waters.
Fossilized leaves and lichens can often be found on the surface.
Quartzite Gray flamed from 2 cm thick slabs, laid with stone glue.
Gray quartzite is an easily washable stone using a high pressure water hose and is resistant to atmospheric and chemical agents.
The tiles can also be supplied in large formats, in order to have particular geometries in the laying perspectives.
Naturally split Gray Quartzite laid on a bed of mortar.
Resistant to atmospheric and chemical agents, washable with high pressure water hose or pressure washer.
Its chromatic tone can be easily combined with any situation and the combination with the green of the surrounding grass is very pleasant.
Naturally split Gold quartzite laid on a bed of mortar.
Like other quartzites, Gold is resistant to external agents and acids typically used to treat swimming pool water.
Thanks to its “warm” tones, it goes well with exposed stone and brick walls.
The combination with the green of the grass is also excellent.
Dark Brown flamed quartzite from slabs, thicknesses of 2 and 4 cm, laid with stone glue.
Still with great chemical and frost resistance, Dark Brown quartzite is a stone that is easy to maintain.
The flooring was made from large slabs, so as to obtain large-sized pieces and which give the possibility of creating elegant geometries and particular interpretations.
