Today we are talking about a material that over the last 15-20 years has undergone such growth that it has become the most requested and appreciated by our customers: gray quartzite.
Gray quartzite is a metamorphic rock of natural origin which, as the word implies, is mainly composed of quartz.
The gray quartzite we treat is extracted in India: the quarries from which our materials come give a good production and are fairly constant in color (picture of the quarry alongside).
So where do the reasons for such an amazing success lie?
It is a material that undoubtedly has many qualities: it is very hard and resistant to wear, it is antifreeze and has a very fine grain. Being a resistant material, it can withstand “significant” trampling without causing problems.
It resists well to acid substances and oils, therefore its maintenance does not require particular precautions. Over time it keeps its original appearance fairly intact and does not undergo particular chromatic variations.
Quartzite can be easily worked with different types of finishes.
Being resistant to fire and heat, it lends itself particularly well to being flamed. With the processing of the flaming, the color of the stone emerges: it can have gray shades tending towards green or dove gray with warmer shades that can vary from red to brown.
Quartzite can also be smoothed, brushed or aged.
In recent years, the WEN-PEC finish has also become widespread, which gives the slabs an original striped appearance.
The natural split quarry finish with sheared sides is highly appreciated, available in tiles in usually quite large formats (60 x 40 cm or 60 x 90 cm the most requested, with an irregular thickness of 2 cm calibrated or 2.5 /3.5 cm), covers and curbs.
Due to its aesthetic characteristics, it is a very versatile material that does not place constraints in combination with other stone materials but also with materials such as wood and aluminum: as gray is a neutral shade, it can be used in numerous contexts without standing out too much.
Its rough and pleasant to the touch surface therefore makes it very suitable for the creation of thresholds and window sills and for external floors and pool edges as an excellent non-slip product that gives a natural and homogeneous final effect even on large surfaces.
