The external environment of a house or building represents an element capable of giving continuity to the environments or of distinguishing and thus giving a touch of originality: balconies, thresholds and window sills are increasingly not mere accessories but are to be considered real own furnishing accessories and an extension of the internal environments.
When choosing the best outdoor materials, you can range widely between marble, granite and stone and thus find the material that best suits your needs and tastes.
Before proceeding with the choice, it must be considered that outdoor materials must possess precise technical requirements: it is necessary to favor anti-freeze materials, that is, able to perfectly resist the cold but also various atmospheric phenomena such as rain, snow, UV rays; the materials must be resistant to acids, with minimal moisture or water absorption, easy to clean and maintain and non-slip.
Granites, which by their nature are the most resistant and long-lasting materials, are widely recommended: national and Sardinian granites, serizzo, beola, Luserna stone possess all the requisites already mentioned.
Indian quartzites, versatile and striking in their shades including grey, autumn brown and mint, are also particularly suitable. Quartzites come in various formats, from slabs to naturally split quarry floors and are increasingly used for terraces and dehors as they perfectly match the different styles of homes, from classic to rustic to modern.
Over time the granites keep their original appearance intact without undergoing particular chromatic variations.
Marbles can also be used for outdoor environments but sometimes they have characteristics that make them “weaker” than granites.
For the choice between the various types it is always advisable to contact professionals in the sector because sometimes, marbles that are apparently identical to other very resistant ones, in reality possess characteristics that make them unsuitable for use, with the risk of flaking and crumbling permanently and not recoverable.
The same considerations must be made for some sandstones which are frost-free and therefore, alas, not resistant to cold.
