Deciding on the cladding of an internal staircase certainly leaves more choice than that of an external staircase, given that in the second case, research is mainly concentrated on non-slip materials that are extremely resistant to atmospheric agents.
There are many options: from wood to porcelain stoneware, from terracotta to microcement, from glass to resin.
Since we mainly deal with natural materials, for the construction of an internal staircase we would like to recommend two main materials in our company: marble and stone.
Marble doesn’t need too many presentations: it lends itself perfectly to different types of environments, giving light and unique elegance wherever it is placed.
On the other hand, however, it is a very delicate material given its porous nature and requires special detergents and a certain amount of maintenance, which is demanding from an economic point of view.
Stone adapts well to rustic environments, it is the perfect material for second homes in the mountains, hills or countryside. Even if today, thanks to the most modern manufacturing techniques, it is possible to insert stone in more contemporary environments.
The most important advantage of stone cladding for stairs is the extreme resistance to the continuous trampling to which each staircase is subjected. The necessary maintenance is negligible and also the cleaning of the surface is simple and fast. In case of scratches, just use sandpaper to remove them.
It is also possible to make the stone water and oil repellent with waterproofing techniques.
A disadvantage of stone is the predisposition to accumulate more dirt than more worked materials.
Here a selection of our best marbles and natural stones.
It is a process that involves the compression at high temperatures of mixtures of different inert materials (each mixture is associated with a particular product and brand, for example Quarella®). In this way a very compact and resistant product is obtained and in our case perfectly suitable for cladding a staircase.
It is a processing method in which chemical additives are not used, it is a completely recyclable material which is why it is defined as 100% eco-sustainable.
The reference sintered material for Badini Gaetano is Quarella®, made up of quartz and marble agglomerates, of which we are exclusive resellers.
As a result, stone is the material most used to cover stairs but is no longer used with the same frequency of use as in the past, except in rustic environments.
The combination most used today for an internal staircase is certainly given by a masonry or reinforced concrete covered with a stone material.
More modern solutions also combine this material with steel as a supporting structure. The most used materials remain granite, marble, travertine and the like.
There are currently many options on the contemporary market.
